Christmas with FLP: Christmas in your country

Happy Christmas Eve to everyone all over the world! Today marks the end of the Xmas with FLP challenge. It’s been a pleasure doing this challenge with Polished Tickles and Beauty, For the Love of Nail Art and Bubbly Brunette.

When Voni from Polished Tickles and Beauty and Tyler from For the Love of Nail Art and I were chatting about making a challenge, we wanted to make sure that there was a day when we could express our experience of Christmas in South Africa. Whenever we see Christmas manicures online, they are always blue and silver with snowmen and snowflakes. But growing up in the Southern Hemisphere, Christmas is very different. Usually Christmas day is about 30 degrees Celsius (or often raining), but we never, ever have snow. Christmas day is usually a beautiful summer’s day around the pool with family. What is it like where you live?

The final day of the challenge has been described as “Christmas in your country” so that everyone all over the world can portray their own country.

I’ve done a bit of an African take on the traditional Christmas tree, with a nice South African sunset in the background. I hope you like 🙂

I originally just did a tree with a sunset, but then I decided to bling it up a bit. Here is the original:

Christmas with FLP: Christmas Movie

I absolutely love this movie and Tim Burton. I did this movie last year as well (you can look at it here) but I just couldn’t resist.

Here’s the Nightmare Before Christmas Jack and Sally mani (it has a nice ring to it, hey?):

You want to know how I did it??? Here’s a photo tutorial of the steps.

Christmas with FLP: Cute Christmas animal

Last year I did reindeer, and I had a lot of fun. You can check them out here. I’m not quite sure if this really counts as a “Christmas animal”, but I couldn’t help myself. I put Christmas hats on them, but still not sure if they are animals. I think minions are adorable, so I decided to give it a shot.

So here the little Christmas minions are:

Christmas with FLP: Gifts/presents

If you haven’t noticed yet, I am extremely behind on this Christmas challenge. I had a friend’s wedding last weekend and we had lots of guests staying over, so needless to say very little nail art was done. The others have been doing some awesome manis, remember to check them out (Polished Tickles and Beauty, For the Love of Nail Art and Bubbly Brunette).

So, I’ve made it my mission this weekend to catch up! This post was supposed to be completed a week ago, but I’ve finally managed to do it. I really liked how it turned out. It’s super simple to do, but so cute! I hope you all like it.

Christmas with FLP: Christmas Food

I always remember my Grandma making her Christmas pudding on Christmas. It was a secret family recipe (stolen from the nuns by my Great Granny, so the story goes). I must admit though, I’m not a huge fan of fruit cake, so needless to say the Christmas pudding wasn’t my fave.

It was the first thing that I though of when it came to the Christmas Food prompt of the challenge. So, here it is:

Christmas with FLP: Inspired by Christmas colours

Hello all you lovely people!

I hope that everyone has had a fantastic weekend! It’s only a few weeks until Christmas and I’m beginning to get very excited for the break!

Today’s challenge was: Inspired by Christmas colours. I must say, mine aren’t the traditional Christmas colours, but I really love how it turned out. I created some thick stripes with normal scotch tape that I cut in half. Then I hand painted some green holly leaves and used a dotting tool to create the berries (with a smaller white accent).

I hope you like it as much as I do:

Day 24 – Re-create a holiday mani

Wow! 24 manicures in 24 days.. and now it’s Christmas 🙂 What a wonderful end to a fun and entertaining challenge.

I wanted to do something simple and elegant for Christmas, so I re-created the simple Christmas tree manicure. Here is a link to a picture tutorial from Girls Hue. But this mani has been really popular this year so I’m sure you’ve seen it.

Here it is 🙂 Merry Christmas everyone!

Day 23 – Rudolph

Second last post, which also means 2 days to Christmas! 🙂

I Googled Rudolph nails and did something similar to the cutest ones I found.. Here are some sites that I used: Follow the Yellow Polish Road and Top Coat It. They were super cute, I tried to make mine cute too 🙂 A whole bunch of litte Rudolphs.

So here they are 🙂 Photo 2012-12-22 9 56 30 PM Photo 2012-12-22 9 53 09 PM Photo 2012-12-22 9 49 42 PM Photo 2012-12-22 9 45 45 PM

Day 22 – Fruit Cake

I decided to use fruit cake colours and do a more abstract manicure 🙂

I always remember having fruit cake on Christmas. It was a big deal in my family, my grandma used to make tons of Christmas puddings (that have all the fruit, cherries, raisins, etc in). The recipe was passed down from my great-grandmother who apparently stole a recipe for fruit cake from the nuns. I’m not sure how true this whole story is, but it was always a big part of our Christmas.

I did a very simple, abstract design 🙂 I hope you like it!

Day 21 – Water Marble

The day that I’ve been most nervous about – Water Marble. It didn’t turn out TOO bad.. let’s put it this way, there is one nail that I really like. The rest are… meh.

I used a glitter (Skin Food) and a Face Shop dark purple. Nothing much else to say. I’m not a pro and it’s not that great, but it’s done 🙂 I do want to practice this technique and learn how to do it nicely 🙂
