Leopard Print Tutorial

Photo 2013-02-10 3 42 21 PM

I’m so happy that leopard print is back, because I love it! Also, thank goodness it’s really easy to create your own leopard print nails. The great thing with leopard print is that it never has to be 100% perfect.. The more irregular the shapes, the better it looks. So… Here’s a step-by-step tutorial how to do leopard print nails:

leopard print tutorial

Step 1:

Choose your undercoat color and paint your undercoat. I used the natural colours because I wanted to do two accent nails to spruce it up a bit. So, I used a nude from Missha. For my accent nails I painted half nude and half burnt pink (Missha). But you don’t have to do accent nails.

Step 2:

Use your second colour to create random irregular shapes on your nail. I try to keep all the “blobs” about the same size, but some are long and thin while others are round and fatter. I used a nail art brush, but you could also use a dotting tool. I prefer to make these dots smaller and do more. Other people sometimes do larger blobs and fewer.  I used OPI “Wooden Shoe Like to Know” for this step.

Remember: keep a bit of space between each for the third colour and don’t stress if it doesn’t look like much yet.

Step 3:

If you are not doing an accent nail, then this will be your final step. Using a small paint brush or nail art brush paint black around your brown blobs. For this step, DON’T just make a perfect black ring around your brown. The black lines should be broken. Also, they can follow the contours of your irregular blobs.

If you have large spaces between leopard print dots, you can use your black to draw short lines and dots. This will fill up the space and complete the look.

Step 4: Accent Nails

For my accent nails (ring and middle fingers) I only did the leopard print on the nude half of the nails. The burnt pink I left blank. Then, down the dividing line in the center of each nail I stuck gold square metal studs. I really like the effect this creates.

Finally, remember to put a top coat on. And that’s it!

You can go wild (excuse the pun) with leopard print 🙂 Check out some other ideas for leopard print that I was playing around with on my nail wheel.

I’m having so much fun on my nail wheels, I don’t know why I didn’t get them sooner! I hope you like them.. Which is your favorite? 🙂

Time for a cute, daisy manicure

I’m happy with this, it looks so cute and simple. I used a nude under coat (Holika Holika) then I used a dotting tool to make cute little flowers. I put some diamante jewels on the pinky as an accent. That’s it. Simple, cute, easy… 🙂 I hope you like it!

Floral Stamping

Can you believe it, this is my first stamping post! I’ve had a phobia of stamping, and I finally plucked up the courage to attempt a stamping manicure to share 🙂

I used Konad stamping plate number m71 (you can see it in one of the pics). For the undercoats I used two different Missha blues (they don’t have names, hence the lack of info). Then, I topped it all off with a Shimmer Topcoat (It’s in Korean – “Shwimmer Topcoat” in the picture if you can read Korean) from the Face Shop which I just bought today.

It doesn’t look like much, but it took me AGES to do. I stamped the one nail and then painted a topcoat and it smudged. So I had to start that whole nail again! Arg! But despite the frustrations, I really like it! I hope you all like it too 🙂

I absolutely love this topcoat, its so subtle, but it’s such a pretty shimmer. I think it will look nice with lots of different polishes. Yay! I love a good polish purchase 🙂 And it was only about $3 🙂

Gradient blast

This is my first post since Christmas 🙂 I hope everyone had a happy Christmas day 🙂 I got an amazing camera from my boyfriend for Christmas, so I’m really excited to learn how to use it and use it for my blog. Also maybe dabble in some other photography 🙂

I did a gradient with a tape pattern and a jewel accent nail. I used a random purple and Holika Holika peach combination for the gradient. I cut scotch tape into triangles for the tape design. This is the result.. I hope you like it 🙂

Day 8 – Starry Night

Here is yesterday’s post 🙂 I really liked this topic and I like how it turned out.

Because it was glitter, I used a Modi Peel Off Base Coat which makes it really easy to remove. It peels off so easily! It really beats trying to remove it with nail polish remover. My friend, Nailart for Funn did a Modi Peel Off Base Coat review, you can read it here.

After the base coat, I used a Skin Food purple undercoat, followed by a Modi glitter polish (in the picture). I love this Modi polish because it has purple, blue and gold/bronze glitter in it. It’s a really interesting combination! Then I used a nail art brush and Sally Hansen “White On” to paint a star shape. In the middle of the white star I stuck a star-shaped nail art jewel.

So, here’s the mani. What do you think?

Day 5 – Blue :)

Here’s the mani for the day. Inspired by the colour blue 🙂 I was also inspired by a manicure done by Voulez-vous Polish Avec Moi? which I’ve been meaning to try. It looks really striking, but its also easy to do.

Basically it’s just an undercoat with a second colour painted in three staggered strokes. Sounds hard, but it’s pretty easy and it looks awesome. So, I can’t take credit for this technique, but I really enjoyed how it came out 🙂

I used a Modi (Korean brand) blue glitter – it also has specks of green, very pretty, and Sally Hansen “White On”. I hope you all like it 🙂
