Tutorial: Hand-painted Roses

I’m extremely happy with how these turned out! The nice thing about roses is that they don’t have to be absolutely perfect to look gorge! Here’s the final result:

I got the inspiration from Katy Perry. I absolutely love her nails, she always has such crazy designs. See the rose mani below (top left)?

If you are curious as to how to create this look yourself, check out my photo tutorial ๐Ÿ™‚

Boom!

I did this manicure a while ago while I was recovering from my appendix surgery. You would think that I would have done about 10 manicures in that week I was off work, but to be honest I was so high on pain meds that I don’t think they would have been very good. The time wasn’t completely wasted, I used it to catch up on my sleep and series (I started and finished Game of Thrones in that time).

I was going for a Pop Art theme.. I attempted to make a tutorial, but again, the pain meds!

Stained Glass

I’m writing this post from another country, hemisphere and season. It’s scorching hot and beautiful in South Africa at the moment. I’m staying with my boyfriend’s family who live on a lake just outside of Johannesburg, the views are absolutely spectacular (I will post some pics in my next post).

I created this post at the end of February but I’m only getting the chance to post it now.ย  Tip Top South Africa (they are apparently a fabulous nail polish, I’m still waiting to get my hands on a bottle) have a competition running which ended today. Sorry for the late notice to anyone that may have wanted to enter. Check out the Tip Top South Africa Facebook page. I’m not sure exactly how their competition works, I think it has 4 sections (one each week) and then a winner at the end. Either way, there are some awesome pics up that you can go check out. I think that people overseas can also order Tip Top on their website.

Last week’s theme was “stained glass”. I love participating in these themes because it pushes me to try new things and do things I wouldn’t usually do. I really like how this turned out, but I couldn’t tell you how I did it. Lots of time and patience. The one with the window frame I used a dotting tool for and then painted the black on top. The other nails I used nail art brushes for and mixed darker and lighter colours to create a gradient effect. I hope you like it!

Water Marble Monday

Seeing as I’m officially finished teaching AND I’m trying to avoid packing up my whole apartment, I decided to give water marbling another try ๐Ÿ™‚

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “Twisted Pink” and a blue from The Face Shop. I think that I’m getting the hang of water marbling because I only had to re-do one nail! So I’m really happy! Here it is:

I love how each nail is unique and unpredictable. My favourite is the thumb. What do you think?

Day 18 – Something classic

I decided to do a version of a French Manicure ๐Ÿ™‚ I love French Manicures AND they are classic. This one didn’t turn out too Christmassy, I added some tape to try spice it up. But I realised that I don’t have red or green tape (Christmas colours).. But, I did my best and this is how it turned out ๐Ÿ™‚

I used a Konad light pink that is very transparent as an undercoat, then I used tape and Sally Hansen White On to make a French manicure effect. After that I used blue and black tape and a lace black tape on one nail as an accent. That’s it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 8 – Starry Night

Here is yesterday’s post ๐Ÿ™‚ I really liked this topic and I like how it turned out.

Because it was glitter, I used a Modi Peel Off Base Coat which makes it really easy to remove. It peels off so easily! It really beats trying to remove it with nail polish remover. My friend, Nailart for Funn did a Modi Peel Off Base Coat review, you can read it here.

After the base coat, I used a Skin Food purple undercoat, followed by a Modi glitter polish (in the picture). I love this Modi polish because it has purple, blue and gold/bronze glitter in it. It’s a really interesting combination! Then I used a nail art brush and Sally Hansen “White On” to paint a star shape. In the middle of the white star I stuck a star-shaped nail art jewel.

So, here’s the mani. What do you think?

Day 6 – White

The theme for Day 6 is “White”. I found it a bit hard because I didn’t know how to make white exciting. So I decided to do a “lace”-inspired manicure. I used some inspiration from Google – Here is the blog I used for inspiration. She used mainly stamps, and because of my mental block against stamping, I decided to do it purely by hand.

I used a purple The Face Shop for an undercoat and I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear “White On” for the finer work. I used a dotting tool and a nail art paint brush. Also, I added some jewels, just for the bling factor. I don’t think it’s really true to the theme of the day because the white is quite minimal.. but I love it!

Not to ramble on.. so, here it is. What do you think?
