100 follows!

THANK YOU! I have just reached 100 followers, and I am so happy! Thank you to everyone who follows me! I really appreciate all the kind words and support I’ve received since I started in November last year.

It’s been 7 days since I posted my interview nails, since then I’ve had 4 interviews. It’s been an extremely busy time. But, I’m happy to announce that I was offered a job, starting on Monday (tomorrow)! I’m extremely happy and excited. I’m also a tad bit nervous..

Needless to say, I haven’t had a lot of time to experiment with nail art. So I’m going to post one from the archives.

This was supposed to be leopard print, but I used two colours in the dots, so I think it looks a bit like camouflage. Anyway, I still like it, I hope you do too πŸ™‚

Stained Glass

I’m writing this post from another country, hemisphere and season. It’s scorching hot and beautiful in South Africa at the moment. I’m staying with my boyfriend’s family who live on a lake just outside of Johannesburg, the views are absolutely spectacular (I will post some pics in my next post).

I created this post at the end of February but I’m only getting the chance to post it now.Β  Tip Top South Africa (they are apparently a fabulous nail polish, I’m still waiting to get my hands on a bottle) have a competition running which ended today. Sorry for the late notice to anyone that may have wanted to enter. Check out the Tip Top South Africa Facebook page. I’m not sure exactly how their competition works, I think it has 4 sections (one each week) and then a winner at the end. Either way, there are some awesome pics up that you can go check out. I think that people overseas can also order Tip Top on their website.

Last week’s theme was “stained glass”. I love participating in these themes because it pushes me to try new things and do things I wouldn’t usually do. I really like how this turned out, but I couldn’t tell you how I did it. Lots of time and patience. The one with the window frame I used a dotting tool for and then painted the black on top. The other nails I used nail art brushes for and mixed darker and lighter colours to create a gradient effect. I hope you like it!

Leopard Print Tutorial

Photo 2013-02-10 3 42 21 PM

I’m so happy that leopard print is back, because I love it! Also, thank goodness it’s really easy to create your own leopard print nails. The great thing with leopard print is that it never has to be 100% perfect.. The more irregular the shapes, the better it looks. So… Here’s a step-by-step tutorial how to do leopard print nails:

leopard print tutorial

Step 1:

Choose your undercoat color and paint your undercoat. I used the natural colours because I wanted to do two accent nails to spruce it up a bit. So, I used a nude from Missha. For my accent nails I painted half nude and half burnt pink (Missha). But you don’t have to do accent nails.

Step 2:

Use your second colour to create random irregular shapes on your nail. I try to keep all the “blobs” about the same size, but some are long and thin while others are round and fatter. I used a nail art brush, but you could also use a dotting tool. I prefer to make these dots smaller and do more. Other people sometimes do larger blobs and fewer.Β  I used OPI “Wooden Shoe Like to Know” for this step.

Remember: keep a bit of space between each for the third colour and don’t stress if it doesn’t look like much yet.

Step 3:

If you are not doing an accent nail, then this will be your final step. Using a small paint brush or nail art brush paint black around your brown blobs. For this step, DON’T just make a perfect black ring around your brown. The black lines should be broken. Also, they can follow the contours of your irregular blobs.

If you have large spaces between leopard print dots, you can use your black to draw short lines and dots. This will fill up the space and complete the look.

Step 4: Accent Nails

For my accent nails (ring and middle fingers) I only did the leopard print on the nude half of the nails. The burnt pink I left blank. Then, down the dividing line in the center of each nail I stuck gold square metal studs. I really like the effect this creates.

Finally, remember to put a top coat on. And that’s it!

You can go wild (excuse the pun) with leopard print πŸ™‚ Check out some other ideas for leopard print that I was playing around with on my nail wheel.

Boracay nails

Hello everyone! I have a good reason for not posting in a few days, I was in the Philippines! I had so much fun lying in the sun and doing various touristy activities.

While I was there I also had a manicure. It was very simple, as they didn’t really specialize in nails.. but it was fun anyway πŸ™‚ It cost me about 200 Philippine Peso ($5) with my hotel discount. So I’m not complaining.

The Philippines was amazing, everybody is so helpful and friendly, I just wish I could go back! πŸ™‚

Here are some pics. They are by no means proper nail art blog pics, but I thought it would be fun to share them anyway πŸ™‚

Day 22 – Fruit Cake

I decided to use fruit cake colours and do a more abstract manicure πŸ™‚

I always remember having fruit cake on Christmas. It was a big deal in my family, my grandma used to make tons of Christmas puddings (that have all the fruit, cherries, raisins, etc in). The recipe was passed down from my great-grandmother who apparently stole a recipe for fruit cake from the nuns. I’m not sure how true this whole story is, but it was always a big part of our Christmas.

I did a very simple, abstract design πŸ™‚ I hope you like it!

Day 11 – Gifts

Today’s topic was “gifts”. I did one mani for this, and I hated it. So I removed it and started again. I much prefer this one πŸ™‚

I wanted something simple, but cute, and I like how this one has turned out! I’m going through a bow phase, so yet again, there’s a bow in this mani.

I decided at the end to add a little gift tag in brown and I wanted to write something on it. The only thing that would fit was “to”. My boyfriend was teasing me a lot today saying “What does ‘to’ mean? You should have written something more awesome!”Β  I replied: “Well, firstly I was going for the ‘to’ and ‘from’ thing that you usually write on gift tags. Secondly, YOU try writing in tiny letters in nail polish on a nail!”. Sheesh, men! They just don’t get it. It’s not as easy as it looks! πŸ™‚

So here it is..Β  πŸ™‚ I hope you like it!

I really want to share links to the other bloggers doing this challenge. But I haven’t figured out that other website yet (if anyone can show me how to add my link to that group, I would really appreciate it). So I’ll just do it old-fashioned style πŸ™‚

Day 10 – Lights

The topic for today is “lights”. Easier said than done! Originally I wanted to do something colourful, like colourful Christmas lights. But, I quicklyΒ  changed my mind.. I went for a simple manicure!

I used OPI “Wooden Shoe Like to Know” (my only OPI 😦 But I love it), a black nail art brush and a gold glitter polish. I tried to make it look like a string of lights, but I’m not sure if it came across like that.

Anyway, here it is πŸ™‚ Its really really simple, but I hope you like it πŸ™‚
